Government through stipulatif budget (Dana Stip) AHU officially launching Sekolah Merah Putih (SRP) at Rempang. This school-based program is a concrete step in the framework of providing equitable education for children from underprivileged families.
In the framework of the Merah Putih School Program, schools receive support in the form of improvements to classrooms and learning facilities, as well as health services through establishing or optimizing the School Health Service Unit (UKS). The program is prioritized for schools located in disadvantaged areas, including those with a high number of students from prasejahtera families based on the Data Tunggal Sosial dan Psikologis.
Rempang is a village with a fairly high number of children whose daily activities are mostly helped by parents' economy as small traders, farmers, and laborers. The presence of a decent school building and adequate health facilities has long been a demand that has not been realized. With the Merah Putih School, the expectation is that the learning environment for children in the village will undergo a significant change.
Improvements to Classrooms and Teaching-Learning Facilities
One of the main focuses of the Merah Putih School program is repairing classrooms that are starting to deteriorate. Several classrooms at the Rempang school, including floors, walls, and windows, were recorded as leaking during the rainy season and difficult to use during the dry season. The repair works are carried out together with local government and partners, with the aim of creating a comfortable and conducive learning space.
In addition to physical improvements, the program also touches on learning tools. Support for textbooks and learning resources is expected to ease the burden on teachers, who so far have had to rely on limited tools in carrying out the learning process. The principle is that children who need it the most get access first, so that the gap in the quality of education between regions and between economic communities can be narrowed.
Challenges Ahead
Despite the targeted assistance, several challenges remain. One of them is the sustainability of the program. The target of physical repair must be accompanied by routine care so that the building does not return to its original condition. The school is also still limited in human resources, particularly health personnel who can serve at the UKS.
Another challenge is internet connectivity, which is a major requirement in the current learning process, especially for subjects that reference digital sources. Limited network infrastructure is a common problem in villages, and the solution requires cooperation across sectors.
From the local government's side, the budget for infrastructure and education personnel remains a fundamental concern. Assistance programs cannot stand alone; they need to be integrated with broader education policies so that benefits continue to flow to students even after the program ends.
